Caroline Cummings

Caroline Cummings grew up in the Quad-Cities in Davenport, Iowa. After high school she attended Simpson College and majored in history and environmental science. She has a teaching certificate in all social sciences and all sciences from Iowa State University. In 1992 she completed her Master's in Public Administration with an emphasis in Natural Resources. After the completion of her master's, Cummings worked in the public sector for a landfill organization, operating environmental education programs, hazardous materials events, and other assorted waste reduction programs. Cummings had a shift in her career where she taught middle school at both a traditional and an at-risk program. She also taught collegiate level courses in Des Moines and Joliet. Cummings is currently self-employed as a local property manager and local retailer. Her family farms in Grundy County, operating a small specialty crop farm as well as implementing traditional farming practices. She has volunteered with a wide variety of local nonprofits such as BSA, GSA, 4H, Morris Woman's Club, Home Community Education (U of I Extension), Morris Soccer Association, Morris Softball Association, Morris 54 PTO, First Presbyterian Church of Morris, 100 Women Who Give, etc. Most importantly, Cummings has been a school board member and a Morris Area Public Library Trustee. She has a breadth of knowledge in how small government can be effective for local citizens--she is well versed in Open Meetings Act and how to be efficient and effective in getting positive community solutions.
